Gain can be applied to a specific frequency band: boost the treble for that signature Albini clang, or maximise the bass for fuzz overload. Most famously used by Steve Albini of Shellac, and best known for its distinctive clangy tone with the treble cranked, especially with aluminium - necked guitars.
