Basically the stomp box is apiezo pick up in a foam wedge. I put plenty of rubber and felt inside as well to deaden the top end. However The actual sound is governed mainly by the amp end. If you are using a guitar amp, it will never sound particularly bassy because just the way the makers adjust the eq sound is biased towards getting a good top end for guitars which is the opposite to what you need for a bass stomper.
