I would not be surprised if this is German spruce. As I said I fitted octave strings and tuned it GDAE. The neck was a poor shape, it started to taper out to the nut and looked disgraceful. So, I set too and made it nice and straight, the only benefit to this neck was the way the truss rod had been fitted which works perfectly.
