This is a vintage Selmer Styratone injection-moulded plastic mute made in the United Kingdom in the mid-20th century (likely the 1940s–1950s). These mutes give a "tubby," mellow sound and lightweight feel. Precision-molded from polystyrene with an inner lining — a "felt belt" disk on the bottom of the mute. This design softens the overall sound and cuts back on metallic buzzing. These mutes are generally softer and slightly fuzzy on the front of notes compared to modern metal mutes.
