It achieves nothing. NB There are generally only 2 sizes of Trem Arm, this thicker one of 5.7mm and the slightly thinner at 5mm. It is hard to know which you need if you have lost the arm so if it turns out to be too thick, simply let us know & we'll swap it for the thinner 5mm version.
